Revelations: Interrogating the Sacred

Saint Xavier University senior and Honors Program member Maureen Riley will serve as curator for “Revelations: Interrogating the Sacred” art exhibit on display from Tues., March 19 to Mon., April 8 at the Beverly Arts Center (BAC) East Gallery, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago. An opening reception and a panel discussion about the intersections between religion and art in contemporary times will be held on Sat., March 23, 2013.

As part of her Honors Senior Project, Riley solicited works that explore how religion or spirituality inspired contemporary artists. Thirteen artists from across the country will be displayed in the exhibit.

The opening reception will be from 7 to 8 p.m. and the panel discussion will be from 8 to 9 p.m. in the Butler Reception Room, located in the Warde Academic Center at SXU’s Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St. Attendees can view the exhibit at the BAC from 5 to 7 p.m., and transportation will be provided from the BAC to the University. Refreshments will be provided.

Panel participants include: SXU Department of Art and Design Visiting Professor and former Yale University Religion and the Arts Program Chairman Dr. Jaime Lara; Loyola University Museum of Art Director of Cultural Affairs Pamela Ambrose; School of the Art Institute of Chicago Painting Professor Frank Piatek; and Executive Director/Curator of Open Concept Gallery Dr. Zora Carrier.
